This will ensure that the batch script runs every time the computer starts, automatically configuring your StoryFile kiosk.
Startup Troubleshooting
Here are some tips to ensure the script runs smoothly:
- Close all Chrome Windows: Chrome Kiosk mode will only run if it is the only active Chrome instance.
- Set Chrome on the Exhibit Screen: Prior to closing existing Chrome windows, place the window on the Exhibit screen. This will ensure that the Exhibit window opens on this screen as the default on the next execution.
- Chrome Startup Settings: Ensure that in the Settings > On startup of the Chrome browser, "Open the New Tab page" is selected. You can access these settings via
chrome://settings/onStartup
.
On execution, you may need to wait a few seconds for both the Exhibit window and the Control window to open on each screen.
Adding an Exception to Windows Defender
To avoid interruptions from Windows Defender, add the StoryFile application to the list of allowed programs:
- Open Windows Security:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
- Manage Settings:
- Under Virus & threat protection settings, click on Manage settings.
- Add an Exclusion:
- Scroll down to Exclusions and click on Add or remove exclusions.
- Click Add an exclusion, then select Folder.
- Choose the folder where you extracted the StoryFile application.
This will prevent Windows Defender from flagging the StoryFile application, ensuring smooth operation.
